Health Care at Farm Sanctuary: A Look Behind the Scenes with Jill Tedeschi and Susie Coston #AnimalWelfare

If you have a dog, cat, or other animal at home, you’ll know that caring for our animal friends can be a lot of work but more than worth the effort! At Farm Sanctuary, we care for around 1,000 farm animals between our three shelters (a number that fluctuates as we rescue new animals and facilitate adoptions through our Farm Animal Adoption Network). Caring for these animals many of whom have health challenges as a result of breeding practices used in the meat, dairy, and egg industries is a big undertaking, but helping them live their best lives is one of the most rewarding things about the work we do.

Today and over the coming days and weeks, we’re going behind the scenes to show the work of Farm Sanctuary caregivers. In the video above, Shelter Manager Jill Tedeschi shares a bit of what goes into a health care shift at our New York Shelter.

Earlier today, National Shelter Director Susie Coston hosted a Facebook Live video from our onsite Melrose Small Animal Hospital, answering viewer questions about animal health care and sharing ways in which we examine each resident, provide medications to those who need them, and keep track of all of this on such a large scale! Catch the replay below and tune in on Facebook tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern/10 a.m. Pacific for more live video!
