Horse Slaughter Bill Passes In Texas

On Wednesday (4/24), the Texas House of Representatives passed HB 1324, to legalize horse slaughter in the state, overturning a 1949 law prohibiting it. The vote is a huge disappointment to those who were hoping to stop the bill in the House Calendar Committee (see HUMANElines Issue 243). Now HB 1324 goes to a committee in the Texas Senate for a vote. Since there are no other horse slaughterhouses remaining in the U.S. outside of Texas, the future of all American horses rides on the fate of HB 1324. Stay tuned for updates on the bill's progress in the Senate and how you can take action to stop it.
