HRC President Chad Griffin issued the following statement, upon the news of award-winning PBS anchor Gwen Ifill’s passing:
“Gwen Ifill was a trailblazer and an unparalleled force for journalistic integrity. She was courageous and determined and tireless in using her considerable platform to hold political leaders accountable. Each and every week, Gwen informed the American public about Washington and the world. I had the honor of first meeting her when I was 18 years old, and that honor only grew as I came to know her and consider her a friend. I am deeply saddened by the news of her passing today, but hopeful that her decades of work have inspired countless journalists to live up to the example she set — every day — for decades to come.”
