Experience South Africa

You are invited to accompany an HSI/HSUS staff member on an exciting trip to South Africa. On this journey, we will experience first-hand the amazing wild animals who inhabit this beautiful country. Located at the southernmost tip of Africa, South Africa is ranked as one of the top six most biodiverse countries in the world. It is undoubtedly a wildlife lover’s ultimate destination.

Just a short flight from Johannesburg is the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary, a unique reserve that houses a large variety of rescued African wildlife, including lions, wild dogs, hippos, giraffes, elephants, warthogs, zebras, ostriches and many, many more. Caring for wild animals is expensive, and HSI and The HSUS have been helping SanWild raise much-needed funds.

You will spend part of your week learning about and watching the animals at the sanctuary and the rest exploring neighboring natural wonders. In addition to the SanWild experience, you will spend a day at the world-famous Kruger National Park, one of the largest national parks in the world, which is home to more than 500 bird species and more than 140 types of mammals. There will also be time to simply relax and enjoy all that SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary has to offer, including beautiful gardens, swimming pools, wildlife viewing drives and walks, and wildlife watering holes.

Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience that will also help fund the wildlife protection programs of SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary.

Accommodations

SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary provides exquisite accommodations for guests. There are two camps, each with its own common areas.

The Savannah Camp’s four luxury chalets are situated in a garden setting and have full bathrooms, satellite television, and traditional thatched roofs. The common areas consist of a large dining room and lounge with a breathtaking fireplace, and a rock pool with a waterfall. A veranda leads off the dining area with a small bar. A watering hole nearby attracts animals. Guests are welcome to relax and socialize here. In the evenings, guests enjoy taking it easy by the campfire and looking at the stars.

The Bukisa Camp is for the more adventurous traveler. The camp has four safari-style luxury tents overlooking the Drakensberg Mountains. Each tent has a full bathroom and electricity. The common area includes a lounge, dining and pub area with a fireplace, and a rock swimming pool. A watering hole below the camp is frequented by elephants, giraffes, zebras and more!

Meals will generally take place at your respective camp. Evening programs and special meals will be held in the Savannah Camp.
