The NAACP has released the following statement in response to the federal court decision to restore early voting in Ohio back to the three days prior to Election Day.
From NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous:
“This decision demonstrates the tide is turning in the fight to protect voting rights,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “Early voting is a critical goal tool for so many hard working Americans who want to have their voice heard, but don’t have the luxury of taking off work or standing in long lines on Election Day. We will continue to fight until all attempts to suppression voter participation is turned back.”
From NAACP Ohio State Conference President Sybil Edwards McNabb:
“Ohioans who value their right to vote can rejoice, “stated Ohio State Conference President Sybil Edwards McNabb. “Restrictions on access to the ballot box are an affront to our Democracy. Restoring all weekends to Ohio’s early voting period will provide all voters will the ability to cast their vote in person without risking their jobs, income, or family responsibilities.”
In recent weeks, laws restricting access to the ballot have been in Florida, Wisconsin and Texas, while gubernatorial vetoes have limited similar legislation in Michigan and Virginia.
