NAACP Condemns “Stop the War on Coal Act”

The NAACP spoke out against the “Stop the War on Coal Act” (H.R. 3409), which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on September 21st. The bill would hamstring the Environmental Protection Agency, preventing it from enforcing our nation’s anti-pollution laws, and roll back many aspects of the Clean Air Act.

“The NAACP strongly opposes the ‘Stop the War on Coal Act’, stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “This bill is the culmination of years of attacks against the Environmental Protection Agency, and it is an assault on public health. We are outraged that some members of Congress are trying to prevent the EPA from doing its job. The bill attempts to roll back safeguards against toxic emissions that have a disproportionate impact on communities of color.”
