River City Pride Calls for Update to Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance #LGBTQ

We saw an historic first in Jacksonville as members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office marched in the River City Pride parade.

The week before, the JSO updated their non-discrimination policy to protect LGBTQ employees along with other city agencies. It was great to see JSO officers join thousands of LGBTQ and allied people at pride.

HRC was proud to partner with Equality Florida and the Jacksonville Coalition for Equality during River City Pride to encourage pride attendees to make their voices heard in support of updating Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida without full citywide non-discrimination protections for the LGBTQ community.

During the parade and festival, hundreds of people wrote letters to their City Council Members, left voicemail messages or signed HRO postcards. Do you live in Jacksonville? Make sure to sign the pledge calling for an updated Human Rights Ordinance in Jacksonville.
