The Sierra Club announced their endorsement of New Hampshire’s Governor Maggie Hassan for U.S. Senate.
“The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Governor Hassan for U.S. Senate,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “As governor and state senator, Hassan has been a strong advocate, pushing to cut greenhouse gases, safeguard New Hampshire’s drinking water, and protect its public lands. Governor Hassan has consistently fought to protect the Granite State, and the Sierra Club looks forward to working with her in the Senate.”
As state senator, Hassan sponsored and pushed legislation to protect New Hampshire’s clean air and water, including allowing New Hampshire to join the the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), which sought to cut greenhouse gas emissions, and passing the Renewable Portfolio Standard, which supported the rapidly expanding clean energy market. She continued these efforts as governor, protecting New Hampshire’s public lands by ensuring the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program was fully funded, supporting the Clean Power Plan, and signing the Under 2 MOU as governor, a global compact to limit global temperature increase to below two degrees Celsius.
“I am honored to accept the endorsement of the Sierra Club, a grassroots organization that has been effectively working to protect our environment for over 100 years,” said Governor Maggie Hassan. “From sponsoring legislation allowing New Hampshire to join RGGI and helping pass the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard in the State Senate, to investing in conservation efforts as Governor and establishing a long-term energy strategy focused on clean, renewable energy, I have always fought to protect the beautiful natural resources that are critical to our economy and define us as a state.”
