WWF Statement on the CLEAN Future Act

In response to the announcement of the CLEAN Future Act by the Committee on Energy and Commerce, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from James Mazzarella, WWF senior vice president of policy and government affairs:

“The CLEAN Future Act is the kind of Congressional leadership we need to address the climate crisis our world is currently facing. The plan put forward by Chairmen Pallone, Tonko and Rush is the first comprehensive climate framework from the House of Representatives in more than 10 years. It would set a nationwide emission reduction goal using science-based targets and ensure action in all sectors and at all levels of the U.S. economy, including support for ongoing state and local efforts.

“Every day Americans continue to face the impacts of a growing climate crisis: year-round extreme weather disasters, increasing security threats to our country and threats to the diversity of species we work to protect. We only need look to Australia to see the latest example of how the situation is worsening across the globe, where wildfires have taken lives, destroyed communities, and led to devastating losses of biodiversity, with estimates indicating that as many as 1.25 billion animals have perished so far.

“Our climate is clearly in crisis, and we need Congress to provide real solutions. The framework announced today is a strong step in the right direction.”
