Charting a Course to Transgender Inclusion in Schools #LGBTQ #Kids

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) recently highlighted HRC’s work to increase transgender inclusion in schools. ASCD is the global leader in developing and delivering innovative programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner that serves  over 125,000 educational professionals.

The article discusses best practices for supporting transitioning students, including respecting privacy, using the correct pronouns, and creating a gender-inclusive school environment. ASCD also suggests that educators become familiar with HRC’s Welcoming Schools program, and Schools In Transition, a guide that HRC and other organizational partners created to help K–12 schools build inclusive environments for transgender students.

Read ASCD’s article and find more resources about transgender inclusion from HRC’s Welcoming Schools.

HRC’s Welcoming Schools is the nation’s premiere program dedicated to creating respectful and supportive elementary schools in embracing family diversity, creating LGBTQ-inclusive schools, preventing bias-based bullying, creating gender-expansive schools and supporting transgender and non-binary students. We envision a day when all schools will truly be Welcoming Schools.
