Eva Mendes, Ed Begley, Jr. Join Sierra Club in Call to Move Beyond Oil

Celebrities Eva Mendes and Ed Begley, Jr. have added their voices to hundreds of thousands calling on President Obama to end America’s dependence on oil.

In a Sierra Club video released on September 16th, the celebrities point to the catastrophic BP disaster in the Gulf as evidence that America’s dependence on oil has become too dirty and dangerous. The interactive video allows users to customize newspaper headlines, banners, and other images with their name or a friend’s name. After watching the video, users are encouraged to sign a petition to President Obama.

“More and more people are joining the call to end America’s dependence on oil. We are thrilled that talented celebrities like Eva Mendes and Ed Begley, Jr. want their fans to join the effort to switch to clean energy,” said Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune. “The BP disaster in the Gulf, and recent pipeline spills in Michigan and Illinois have shown us just how dangerous our oil dependence is. It’s time to stop allowing the oil industry to call the shots. We need to invest in the kind of clean energy that will keep our coasts intact, create good jobs, and infuse new life into America’s economy.”

The video is part of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Oil campaign, which organized hundreds of thousands of citizens over the summer to send messages to President Obama and participate in events like Hands Across the Sand, calling for an end to oil dependence.
