FERC Rushes Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline Approval Despite Widespread Opposition

On February 3rd, just prior to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission losing a quorum, the commission approved the Atlantic Sunrise pipeline, which would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania to South Carolina.
In response, Sierra Club Beyond Dirty Fuels campaign Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:
“FERC’s decision to rush this dirty and dangerous project through is nothing short of reckless — particularly given the inadequate reviews of this project, leaving substantial outstanding questions about its full impact. The Atlantic Sunrise pipeline will threaten hundreds of communities while locking our country into a dirty fuel.
“Approval of this and every fracked gas pipeline won’t only threaten the communities the pipelines cut through, but also those that live with fracking operations within and near them on a daily basis. We must move beyond gas, and advance our transition to clean, renewable energy immediately — not double down on outdated dirty fuels.”
