On July 13th, Representative Lamar Smith, chair of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, subpoenaed New York and Massachusetts attorneys general and a slew of green groups concerning the investigation into Exxon and its coverup of climate science.
In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“Representative Smith and House Republicans response to the investigation into Exxon further highlights where their allegiances truly are. Rather than working to uncover why Exxon hid climate science for decades while furthering climate disruption that hurts American families, Smith and his colleagues are working to protect the oil giant and their campaign contributors.
“It’s time for Congressional Republicans to end this charade and put the public’s health and well-being above Big Oil’s interests.”
