The Sierra Club announced its endorsement of former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland for U.S. Senate.
“The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Governor Ted Strickland for U.S. Senate,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “A longtime clean, renewable energy champion, Strickland has not only spoken on the need to transition off of dirty fuels, but he has acted on it, making Ohio the leader in green job creation while governor. Strickland recognizes that acting on climate is not only a moral imperative, but an opportunity to grow Ohio and America’s job market, and Sierra Club looks forward to working with him in the Senate.”
Former Governor Ted Strickland has a lengthy record of working to protect Ohio’s waterways, advocating to prevent further climate disruption, and establishing his state as a clean energy economy leader. Under his leadership, Ohio led the nation in green job creation. Thanks to these efforts, Ohio has more than 130,000 green jobs, sixth-highest in the country.
“I am honored to have earned the Sierra Club’s endorsement, a group that shares my commitment to protecting our environment, our public health and creating a clean energy economy,” said Governor Ted Strickland. “As governor, I was proud to put in place a groundbreaking clean energy program that helped create 25,000 jobs, helped Ohioans save over $1 billion on their electricity rates and began tackling the challenge of catastrophic climate change. In the Senate, I look forward to continuing my efforts to position Ohio to benefit from all this new clean energy economy will bring—more jobs, lower electricity rates, and better public health.”
The Sierra Club will be mobilizing its members and staff this election to support and elect endorsed candidates like former Governor Ted Strickland.
