United States Announces Mid-Century Strategy For Decarbonization #Carbon

On November 16th, the United States announced its strategy to reduce emissions by transitioning to a low-carbon energy system and reducing non-carbon emissions.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:“We applaud Secretary Kerry and the Obama Administration for their continued commitment to meaningful and sustainable climate action both in the U.S. and around the world. The announcement of this ambitious, bold, and achievable new plan to decarbonize our economy sets a clear path forward for the United States to follow — one that stands to quickly and drastically slash dangerous carbon pollution by calling for a phase out of nearly all fossil fuels by 2050, an increase of economy-wide efficiency by 20 percent, and reforesting 50 million acres of U.S. land, all while continuing to grow our booming clean energy economy.

“No matter who is in the White House, any leader that wants to create jobs, protect our communities and be taken seriously in the international community must build on the climate legacy of President Obama and Secretary Kerry. Anyone who fails to realize that not only poses a very real danger to our economy, our families, and our planet but simply cannot call themselves a global leader.”
