On Sunday May 21st, for the first time in the Sierra Club’s 125-year history, an all female executive committee was elected. The Sierra Club Board of Directors elected Loren Blackford of New York as the new board president. Aaron Mair, immediate past president of the board, reached his term limit this year.
The May 2017-May 2018 board executive committee also includes Vice President Susana Reyes of California, Treasurer Elizabeth Walsh of Texas, Secretary Robin Mann of Pennsylvania, and Fifth Officer Margrete Strand-Rangnes of Washington, D.C.
“I am deeply honored to work with this amazing Executive Committee and Board of Directors and our more than 3 million members and supporters who are stepping up to meet the significant challenges we face as a country,” said Loren Blackford, Sierra Club president.
“Together, we are committed to the principles of justice, equity, and inclusion, and we will build on the Sierra Club’s 125 years of success fighting for clean air and water, renewable energy, and access to nature for all.”
