NAACP Chairman of the Board of Directors denies slandering the President or his cabinet
Julian Bond, Chairman, the NAACP Board of Directors, denied charges that he slandered President Bush and members of his cabinet in a speech delivered February 1st at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C.
"This is just another outrageous attempt by right wing fanatics to smear me and by association the NAACP", said Bond. The words and phrases Bond allegedly spoke did not appear in his written text nor on a taped recording of his Fayette speech.
The charges were made on a conservative Internet site, WorldNetDaily, and repeated by other conservative opponents of the NAACP.
Bruce S. Gordon, NAACP President and CEO, said, "It is interesting that while groups like WorldNet Daily and Project 21 spread half-truths and lies about Bond, they offered no direct evidence of what was said. I view this as an attempt to derail my attempts to build a constructive relationship with the Administration. The local Fayetteville media did not report any of the charges made by these groups."
Gordon said the NAACP would continue to fight for justice and equality for all Americans in spite of opposition from far-right opponents.
