On the eve of its 99th Annual Convention in Cincinnati, the NAACP will launch its Financial Empowerment Tour with the day long- seminar "Banking on a Changed Mind" on Friday July 11th at 9 am.
Designed to address the economic and financial concerns of African Americans, the seminar series will focus on several vital areas of interest including wealth creation and maintenance, financial literacy, economic disparity, home ownership, retirement planning and entrepreneurship.
"Economic empowerment is a civil rights issue too," said NAACP Interim President & CEO Dennis Courtland Hayes. "Through the financial empowerment tour, participants will be given tools and strategies that will allow them to take charge of their situation so they can meet or exceed their financial goals. Financially empowered people create stronger, sustainable communities with higher qualities of lifeāand that is our goal. "
The tour will feature several renowned financial experts as keynote speakers including Cheryl D Broussard, author of Sister CEO and Keith Corbett, executive vice president at the Center for Responsible Lending, among others.
"In response to overwhelming economic uncertainty and consumer anxiety, we felt that the timing of this tour was critical in helping consumers to better understand these issues." said Dawn Franklin, National Coordinator, NAACP Economic Empowerment Department.
Other stops on the tour include Houston, Baltimore, St. Louis and Atlanta.
