Captive Wildlife Safety Act Heads To President’s Desk

On Monday December 7th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1006, the Captive Wildllife Safety Act. Since this is the same version of the legislation passed earlier by the Senate, the bill now goes to President Bush for his signature into law. Once enacted, the Captive Wildlife Safety Act will ban the interstate transport of dangerous, big cats—lions, tigers, cougars, cheetahs, and leopards—for the exotic pet trade, effectively quashing this branch of the exotic pet industry.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Send President Bush an email (president@whitehouse.gov) or leave him a message (202-456-1414), urging him to sign H.R. 1006, the Captive Wildlife Safety Act, into law as soon as possible.
