Trafficking in Persons Report Integrity Act Would Strengthen International Efforts in the Fight Against Modern Day Slavery

Washington, D.C.—Human Rights First welcomed yesterday’s re-introduction of the Trafficking in Persons Report Integrity Act, which would strengthen the State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report by increasing transparency in the process. The bill was introduced by Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Cory Gardner (R-CO), and aims to clarify the evidence used in determining the ranking of individual countries on their efforts to combat human trafficking.

DHS Memorandum Would Undermine Access to Asylum, Impose Arbitrary Detention

New York City—Human Rights First expressed its opposition to proposals included in a draft Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memorandum outlining potential steps to implement President Trump’s executive order relating to the border and asylum that would block access to asylum and hold asylum seekers in immigration detention for extended periods of time.
