Girl Scouts Promoting Trapping

According to the Associated Press (11/14), Girl Scout troops in Alaska are learning how to trap and kill wildlife. It's part of the "Take a Kid Trapping"program set up by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. So far, members of Troop 34 have reportedly killed and skinned two beavers and plan to turn their furs into hats and mittens once they kill ten more. This program is particularly cruel and futile because plenty of excellent non-lethal beaver control alternatives (see Solving Problems With Beavers ) abound.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Contact the Girl Scouts' national headquarters and let them know that Girl Scouts should teach its members to respect—not kill—wildlife. Ask them to put pressure on Troop 34 in Alaska to stop their trapping program.
