Former vice President Al Gore campaigned in the battleground state of Florida in support of Hillary Clinton, highlighting the importance of voting for a candidate that will fight the climate crisis. Climate change is an issue that Al Gore has long-championed, and is also high on the list of concerns for both millennials and people of color.
Gore brought attention to the fact that GOP nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly denied man-made climate change, calling it a “Chinese hoax”, and emphasized Clinton’s plans to expand clean energy, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and invest infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather, like Hurricane Matthew.
In response, Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club, released the following statement:
“They say it takes one to know one, which is why Al Gore’s support of Hillary Clinton as our next great climate champion is so important. As Vice President Gore made clear, there is only one candidate in this race who will tackle the climate crisis, and it’s Hillary Clinton. We know we have the ability to tackle the climate crisis by embracing a clean energy economy, but all our progress in doing that is threatened if we send a climate denier to the White House. There is too much at stake this election, which is why the Sierra Club is mobilizing our members and supporters to elect Hillary Clinton.”
