National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial was named to the NonProfit Times’ 2016 Power & Influence Top 50.
“Voter suppression, inequity, minimum wage, economic development and education are all toppers on the list of nonprofit issues and Morial is going after all of them,” the magazine wrote. “He’s led initiatives such as the National Urban League Empowerment Fund, which has pumped almost $200 million into urban impact businesses. He also has a spot on the International Civil Rights ‘Walk of Fame.’”
Others on the list include Bill Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Janet Murguia, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza, Darren Walker, President and CEO of the Ford Foundation, and Dara Richardson-Heron, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA USA.
“I’m honored to be named among such a distinguished group of individuals and proud that our organization is recognized as one of the nation’s top non-profits,” Morial said. “It’s a tribute to the important work our entire Urban League Movement is doing across the nation, empowering communities and changing lives. I thank NonProfit Times for the recognition and congratulate all my fellow honorees.”
In its announcement, the magazine wrote “Managing a nonprofit, let alone innovating, is a tall order/. Mastering that balance between sustainability and change is why these 50 executives have been selected … The executives represented on these pages understand from where the sector has come and where it must go in an era when instant results are required of leaders.”
