For the third consecutive year, National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial was named to the NonProfit Times’ Power & Influence Top 50.
“Enshrined on the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, Morial’s Entrepreneurship Center Program helped to create or save 58,608 jobs and $261,601,909 in new contracts and financing for local businesses,” the magazine wrote. “His empowerment agenda, ‘A Just Deal For America,’ covers just about every pillar of civil society. He’s drawing a ‘line in the sand for a new social compact.’”
The annual honor is given to those nonprofit executives who have made an impact during the previous 12 months. Others on the list include Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Demos President Heather C. McGee, and Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union.
“It’s an honor to be included among this group of dynamic and devoted activists and advocates, and very proud that the National Urban League has been recognized as one of the nation’s top non-profits,” Morial said. “The Urban League Movement is doing impactful and vital work across the nation, empowering communities and changing lives, and this is a tribute to their dedication as well. Thank you to the NonProfit Times and congratulations to all my fellow honorees.”
In its announcement, the magazine wrote that the honorees “have distinguished themselves as initiators of concepts that will have legs and are already having impact.”
