Just in time for summer, all-vegan footwear company Nomadic State of Mind—whose celebrity following includes Lili Reinhart, Jennifer Aniston, and Selma Blair—has partnered with PETA to create the special-edition Sailor’s Dream sandal, an exquisite handwoven slip-on made of rope. In honor of the collaboration, a percentage of sales from the collection will go toward PETA’s vital work to help animals.
“PETA and Nomadic State of Mind’s Sailor’s Dream sandals are the perfect fit for anyone who wants to protect animals and the planet with every step they take,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Eco-friendly vegan accessories are skyrocketing in popularity, so these sandals are right on-trend.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—notes that leather is the most economically important coproduct of the meat industry, so choosing vegan footwear spares cows the cruelty of castration, branding, and tail-docking as well as their throats being slit in slaughterhouses. More than 80% of the Amazon rainforest that’s been cleared since 1970 is used for either grazing or growing food for cattle used by the leather and meat industries.
