Organic Consumers Action announced its endorsement of Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) for Democratic National Committee Chair.
“Keith Ellison has a stellar track record when it comes to supporting consumer rights, social justice issues and environmental protection,” said Ronnie Cummins, international director of the Organic Consumers Action and its sister organization, the Organic Consumers Association.
“Ellison isn’t afraid to take on corporations, such as Monsanto and Exxon, when the actions of these companies threaten the health and safety of citizens and their environment. For example, Ellison opposed EPA’s plan to register Dow’s Enlist Duo herbicide, made from 2,4-D and Monsanto’s glyphosate. He has also been an outspoken opponent of Energy Transfer Partner’s push to build the North Dakota Access Pipeline on the Standing Rock Sioux reservation in North Dakota.
“Ellison, who co-chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, had the courage to endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders during his 2016 presidential run. Like Sanders, Ellison also supports the $15 minimum wage and universal healthcare. The DNC needs leadership who will represent the grassroots and fight for the rights of all Americans, not just those who are able to buy themselves a seat at the policymaking table. Organic Consumer Action urges the Democratic National Committee to elect Keith Ellison as its next chair.”
