The Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz for Congress.
A long-time advocate for climate action, Wasserman Schultz has helped usher through and supported numerous bills to address the climate crisis. In Florida, she has campaigned for the restoration of the Everglades, the protection of the state’s coast, including supporting legislation that would block seismic testing and drilling in its coastal waters, and fought ocean acidification and toxic algae blooms.
“The Sierra Club is proud to once again endorse Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz for Congress,” said Melinda Pierce, Legislative Director of the Sierra Club. “Wasserman Schultz has a long record of advocating for the protection of Florida’s treasured places, demanding immediate climate action, and standing up to corporate polluters, and we know she will continue to stand with Floridians to protect their clean air and water.”
Beyond just Florida, Wasserman Schultz has been a vocal proponent of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, advocated for the permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and the need to address environmental injustices, like the Flint water crisis.
“South Florida is the epicenter of our country’s climate change crisis. It is also a laboratory for every opportunity we must seize if we truly place sustainability and public health first, as I have for my entire career in Congress,” said Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “I am honored to have the endorsement of the Sierra Club, and pledge to keep fighting every day for public health and our environment, that hangs precariously in the balance due to destructive Republican policies at the state and national level.”
