On November 23rd, the EPA announced that it was raising the 2017 corn ethanol mandate to 15 billion gallons of conventional biofuel.
In response, Sierra Club Climate Policy Director John Coequyt released the following statement:
“The new ethanol mandate announced today is a step backwards. Requiring the production of more corn ethanol means decimating our grasslands and pumping more toxic pesticides into our water and soil, all without any real emissions reductions. There are better choices, like cellulosic ethanol, that create jobs alongside wind and solar energy without threatening our land .”
