The National Park Service is showering Anacapa Island with
brodifacoum, a highly toxic rat poison with a proven track record of
killing migratory birds and other non-target wildlife. Phase 1 of the
poisoning program resulted in numerous deaths to federally protected
migratory birds such as white-crowned sparrows, golden-crowned
sparrows, Western meadowlarks, American kestrels, and burrowing owls.
Brodifacoum causes animals to die slowly and painfully while bleeding
internally over three to ten days. Please tell the NPS to stop this
cruel and environmentally hazardous poisoning plan before going
forward with Phase 2.
