The Humane Society of the United States has come to the aid of the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society by providing the organization with a $5,000 grant after a recent tornado damaged the organization’s Springfield, Mass. shelter facility.
“The Humane Society of the United States is proud to assist the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, which was damaged in last week’s tornado,” said Alexis Fox, Massachusetts state director for The HSUS. “As Dakin helps families and pets recover from the tornado, this grant will help Dakin repair their shelter and continue providing much-needed services to the animals of their community.”
During the tornado many of the Dakin shelter’s windows blew out, some ceilings fall in, the roof was rendered ragged, trees destroyed their fences and the valuable HVAC system sustained significant damage. Yet, Dakin staff and volunteers, along with others from shelters such as TJ O’Connor, have been working tirelessly since the tornado struck on June 1st to help families with pets that were impacted by the tornado.
