The Sierra Club has opened up applications for the second year of the wildly popular “Best Internship on Earth” for the summer of 2011. Students and recent graduates around the country are vying to spend the summer as the Sierra Club’s Youth Outdoors Ambassador, hiking, rafting, and climbing, on a series of outdoor adventures. The student who gets The Best Internship on Earth will spend the summer traveling around the country as the Youth Outdoors Ambassador for the Sierra Club’s Inner City Outings, Building Bridges to the Outdoors, and Volunteer Vacations programs. The intern will get to go hiking, camping, rafting, and backpacking, and will create a video blog to document the experience and promote the importance of giving all young people opportunities to experience the outdoors. The internship comes with a stipend, all-expenses paid travel, and $2,000 worth of gear from The North Face and Planet Explore. “When we launched the Best Internship on Earth last year, we had no idea we would be met with such an overwhelming response. We’re excited to see the creativity, energy, and enthusiasm that students are pouring into their application videos,” said Sarah Hodgdon, the Sierra Club’s Conservation Director. “It’s inspiring to see how passionate young people are about exploring, enjoying, and protecting the planet.” Students can apply online by submitting a 90 second video talking about why they would be a good fit for the Best Internship on Earth, at www.sierraclub.org/bestinternship Applications for The Best Internship on Earth are being accepted until March 16th, 2011. Students must be at least 18 years old to apply, and currently enrolled in high school, college, or university, or be a recent graduate. To apply for the Best Internship on Earth, or for more information, visit www.sierraclub.org/bestinternship For recent graduates looking for a longer commitment, the Sierra Club’s Environmental Career Apprenticeship program is a training program to cultivate future leaders in environmental advocacy. The 6-month paid apprenticeship positions are designed for recent college graduates who are interested in legislation, media, and community outreach as a means of promoting green initiatives.
