Today is a big day for two very lucky pigs. Not only are Anna and Maybelle celebrating their one-year rescue-versary, but their humanimal “Mom” Tracey Stewart, Farm Sanctuary Board Member and author of Do Unto Animals, has just announced the launch of a new website, TheDailySqueal.farmsanctuary.org.
As you may recall, when Farm Sanctuary first heard about Anna and Maybelle, we immediately offered them a home at our rescued animal shelter in New York. And that is where they met Tracey and her husband Jon, while they were on a tour of the sanctuary. Clearly, these piglets won them over and the Stewarts decided to adopt the two as the first residents of what will become Farm Sanctuary’s fourth shelter location.

A year ago today, two piglets were rescued from the roadside and the trajectory of their lives changed drastically. Had they not fallen off that truck that day, Anna and Maybelle would not be here today. We are eternally grateful for that miracle. Since their rescue, these two pigs have changed the hearts and minds of so many. They’ve shown the world that pigs are smart, they’re adventurous, they’re brave, they’re friendly, they’re inspirational, and they love to have a good time!
Help us celebrate by looking back at an amazing first year and rounding up the top 10 firsts for our girls, Anna and Maybelle.
1. First Act of Kindness
Anna and Maybelle fell off a transport truck on their way to a finishing plant and were rescued by a good Samaritan who patiently tracked them for two days to get them to safety.
2. Love at First Sight
The stars aligned that day in July when Anna and Maybelle arrived at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen at the same time our family was arriving for a visit.
