In October, HRC hosted Andie Ayala, Executive Director of Espacio de Mujeres Lesbianas Salvadoreñas por la diversidad/ESMULES to discuss workplace inclusion for El Salvador businesses. Ayala and her colleagues at ESMULES have conducted pioneering research on LBT women in El Salvador. Their findings have served as valuable tools for advocating for reforms of legislation and public policies. Ayala also participated in HRC’s 2016 Global Innovative Advocacy Summit, which brought together 26 established and emerging advocates for the exchange of ideas and practices for advancing LGBTQ equality.
Meeting at HRC’s office in Washington, D.C., Ayala heard firsthand from Deena Fidas, Director of HRC’s Workplace Equality Program, about the history of the HRC Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) — the national survey and benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBTQ employees. Relating the CEI to HRC’s global work, Fidas, along with Ty Cobb, Director of Global Engagement, discussed HRC’s global CEI launch in Mexico last fall, and the recently launched HRC Equidad MX: Global Workplace Equality Program, a groundbreaking new program that will work to promote LGBTQ workplace inclusion throughout Mexico.
HRC collaborated with Ayala on ESMULES’s new project to improve practices in business throughout El Salvador by sharing insight into corporate engagement and building a network of employers, hosting visibility events, and developing a toolkit on diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
