Human Rights Campaign Commends San Diego Mayor For Resolution In Favor Of Marriage Equality

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender advocacy group, on September 20th commended San Diego, California, Mayor Jerry Sanders for his support of a resolution calling for marriage equality. Mayor Sanders announced yesterday that he will sign the measure, which was passed by San Diego's City Council earlier this week. His decision marks a change of heart for the mayor, who once opposed same-sex marriage.

"I would like to thank Mayor Sanders for his decision to stand up for marriage equality," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "His emotional plea for equal protection under the law transcends politics and shows that he is someone who leads with his heart. We at HRC thank him for his support and for serving as an example of a public official who truly values all his constituents."
