Sierra Club Applauds Ambitious White House Efforts to Expand Electric Vehicle Infrastructure in 35 States #EV #ElectricVehicle

Earlier this month, the White House announced plans to establish 48 national electric-vehicle (EV) charging networks on nearly 25,000 miles of highways in 35 U.S. states. The announcement also included commitments by non-profits, universities, businesses, states, local governments, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Energy and others to increase charging infrastructure around the United States and increase research for electric transportation innovations. The announcement builds on the administration’s announcement this summer of $4.5 billion in loan guarantees to support the commercial-scale deployment of electric vehicle charging facilities.

In response, Sierra Club Electric Vehicles Initiative Director Gina Coplon-Newfield released the following statement:

“Encouraging the rapid transition to electric vehicles is an all-around win for our climate, our public health, and our economy. Electric vehicles are already cleaner than gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles today. Coupled with renewable power, electric vehicles offer the promise of 100 percent clean transportation as we move forward. The Obama administration’s continued efforts to increase accessibility to electric vehicle charging at our highways, homes, and businesses will help speed our transition to a 21st century clean transportation system.”
