Sierra Club-endorsed candidate Charlie Crist defeated David Jolly to become the next Congressman for Florida’s 13th Congressional district. Sierra Club members and supporters helped get out the vote for Crist as part of its Victory Corps program, a nationwide coordinated effort that embeds staff on state and federal campaigns around the country.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
“The Sierra Club is proud to congratulate climate champion Charlie Crist on his victory in Florida’s 13th district. We were happy to not only endorse Crist, but to invest Sierra Club resources and deploy staff to work on his behalf, recruiting volunteers to knock doors, making phone calls, and getting out the vote.
“Charlie is part of the effort to reclaim Congress for climate champions, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him in office standing up for our communities. We look forward to working with Charlie to tackle the climate crisis, create clean energy jobs, and protect our clean air and water.”
