For over 30 years, the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) has served as a safety net for our nation's wildlife and plants on the brink of extinction. Since 1973, the ESA has provided critical protections for endangered species and the places where they live. Unfortunately, in recent years the ESA has been under assault, thanks to a string of regulations and legislation meant to weaken the act.
In a nationwide effort to help protect the ESA, the Endangered Species Coalition (a group representing hundreds of organizations including The HSUS) has created an Endangered Species Act Legacy Pledge. By signing the pledge, people across the country can collectively demonstrate support for the ESA and its crucial protections for wild animals and their habitat.
